Fuel cells are highly efficient for power generation and can operate on various fuels, including hydrogen, natural gas, ammonia, and methane. At Ballard, we prefer to use low-carbon hydrogen for true zero-emissions solutions.
Like any type of engine, the lifetime depends on its usage and environment. Typically, our fuel cell modules last up to 25,000 hours of operation. Maintenance is limited to changing filters, replacing sensors, coolant pumps, and water separators. With only four moving parts, a fuel cell requires significantly less maintenance than an internal combustion engine.
